Do you restore marble floors, countertops and showers?
Yes. Marble floors are honed and polished with planetary diamond machines, countertops and vanities are refinished by hand to remove etching, and showers are deep-cleaned, re-honed and re-sealed after mineral buildup is removed. Marble repair in Chicago also includes chip fills and crack stabilization on all three surfaces.
What is the difference between an etch mark and a stain on marble?
An etch is a dull spot where acid has dissolved the polished surface; a stain is discolouration absorbed into the pores. Etches are honed and re-polished out. Stains are drawn out with a poultice. Many 'stains' on marble are actually etches.
How long does marble polishing take and when can I use the surface?
A kitchen countertop or vanity is usually finished in a few hours; floors take one to three days depending on size. Because we polish wet with no coatings, the marble is ready to use as soon as it is dry and sealed.
Can etch marks be removed from marble without replacing it?
Yes. Etching is chemical dulling of the surface, not a stain. We hone the affected area with diamond abrasives, then re-polish to blend it with the surrounding marble. Most kitchen and vanity etches disappear in a single visit.
How long does marble polishing take?
A vanity or island top usually takes two to four hours. A marble floor runs about 200 to 400 square feet per day depending on lippage, scratch depth, and the finish you want. We confirm the schedule in your estimate.
Should marble be honed or polished?
Polished marble shows color and depth but reveals etching more easily. A honed, matte finish hides water spots and light etches and is popular for floors and busy kitchens. We can show you a test patch of each before you decide.
