Industrial Concrete Floor Restoration & Staining – Lake Forest, IL 60045
Project Date: June 2, 2026
Project Description
Granite Heroes recently completed a full basement concrete floor restoration and decorative staining project in Lake Forest, Illinois 60045. The homeowner wanted a modern industrial-style concrete floor that showcased the natural character of the slab rather than a highly polished, reflective surface.
The existing basement floor was covered with old paint and coatings that concealed the concrete’s natural appearance. Our team mechanically ground the surface to remove all existing coatings, exposing the concrete and revealing areas of natural aggregate throughout the floor.
Once the coatings were removed, we honed the concrete to refine the surface while maintaining the customer’s desired matte industrial aesthetic. A custom stain system was then applied to create rich earth-tone coloration and natural movement throughout the floor. Finally, the concrete was sealed with a premium penetrating sealer to provide long-term protection without creating a glossy finish.
The result is a durable decorative concrete floor that combines exposed aggregate, custom staining, and a low-sheen industrial appearance perfect for a finished basement environment.

Challenges
This Lake Forest basement floor had multiple layers of paint and previous coatings that needed to be completely removed before staining could begin. The homeowner specifically requested an industrial-style finish with visible concrete character and exposed aggregate rather than a polished concrete floor. Achieving a consistent appearance while maintaining natural variation required extensive grinding, honing, and stain blending.
